Interpreting the Brief

The Brief

Our client is the NHS. On the 10th of January 2022, they launched a multimedia Better Health campaign. It was launched to encourage families with young children to eat better. They are also aiming to support families to find a solution to maintain a healthier diet. The campaign follows a record rise in obesity among children since the start of the pandemic.

Our client would like us to produce a creative product for one of the themes they have suggested which are: a TV advert, radio advert or an advertising or promotional material. This innovative product will respond to the Better Health campaign and will be aimed at a new audience. Some of the themes we can choose from for our creative product are eating healthy, getting active, and quitting smoking. Our primary target audience is younger people aged between 16-20. The NHS aims to get younger people aware of the benefits of eating healthy and the risk of not staying healthy. They are trying to encourage the primary audience to be more involved in the campaign so that they can improve their health and well-being for a more significant result. To celebrate the new launch of the Better Health campaign, the NHS wants to increase its audience and promote it to the younger generation.

My Initial Idea

My idea is to do a leaflet and a TV advert o quitting smoking as I want to do a more informative piece of work. I am doing my leaflet and TV advert on quitting smoking because I have a step-dad and grandad who smoke, and I can see the impacts it is having on them, and I want to inform them and people aged 1620 about the effects of smoking and the benefits of not smoking or quitting smoking. For my TV advert, I am going to compose some images together showing the different things about smoking and quitting smoking, and then I am going to put them into my leaflet. I will have two different leaflets, one will be digital so that my TV advert can be embedded in and a physical one that can be posted through letterboxes and put in hospitals and other health care facilities (such as surgeries, walk-in clinics, etc.)

Potential Constraints

With this project, there is a couple of possible constraints that I may have to consider. These are weather and equipment. Weather is a possible constraint because when I am ready to take my photos it will be over the winter season and England's weather is unpredictable so it could be snowing, raining or really cold. So, instead of making my cast and crew go out into the cold, I will either wait a couple of days for the weather to let up or I will take all the outdoor images indoors and take a photo of what the background of the image is meant to be later. For example, I have an image where there is a group of teens smoking (they can't smoke inside) so I will take a photo of them pretending to smoke inside and then take some photos of Barnes park at a later date and then merge the two images together, to create the image I wanted. Equipment is a possible constraint because the technician may not be available or around when I want to film and there possibly may not be any cameras available in class as everyone could be potentially filming at the same time. To fix this issue I could move my filming to another day if my friends have a camera for their filming borrow that camera (as I am their camera person) or I could use my phone until a camera or the technician is available.
